(Lähden) Es ist das bedeutendste Fahrsportereignis des Jahres: die FEI Europameisterschaften der Vierspänner und die FEI Weltmeisterschaft Para-Driving im emsländischen Lähden. Vom 3. – 7. September ist die Gemeinde Lähden der Anziehungspunkt für Top-Fahrer/innen und Fahrsportfans aus buchstäblich aller Welt. Das beginnt bereits mit dem Nationenabend am Mittwoch, 3. September und geht bis zur Ehrung der neuen Weltmeister/innen am Sonntag, 7. September. Dazwischen liegen fabelhafte Wettkämpfe in den drei Teildisziplinen Dressur, Marathon und Hindernisfahren. Gespanne aus insgesamt 17 Nationen werden erwartet mit 45 Vierspännern, 25 Para-Drivern und ihren Pferden.
Die PSG Lähden ist darauf vorbereitet: Bereits das CAI für Ein-, Zwei- und Vierspänner im Mai 2025 sorgte für eine nie da gewesene Rekordzahl von mehr als 180 Gespannen und wurde organisatorisch und sportlich völlig problemlos umgesetzt. “Das Team ist wichtig”, betont Christoph Sandmann, mehrmaliger Vierspänner-Weltmeister und 2. Vorsitzender der PSG Lähden, “wir können uns alle aufeinander verlassen, jede/r weiß, was zu tun ist.” Diese Erfahrung und die Voraussetzungen auf dem Sportgelände der PSG gehören zu den besten in ganz Europa und sorgten dafür, das die Vergabe der beiden Championate durch den Weltverband FEI einhellig bejubelt wurde: drei Arenen/ Plätze, ein riesiger Warm-Up Platz, acht feste Hindernisse für den Marathon und Stallzelte und Standplätze “soweit das Auge reicht”. Dazu gehört eine gewachsene Infrastruktur für die spezifischen Bedürfnisse des Fahrsports.
Spektakulär: der Marathon-Kurs der Vier- und Einspänner
Vor allem der Marathon ist der absolute Publikumsmagnet, spektakulär anzusehen und immer ein kniffelige Aufgabe. Den Hindernissen und der Streckenführung widmen die international renommierten Parcourschefs Jeroen Houtermann (NED) und Vilmos Jambor (HUN) größte Aufmerksamkeit und eigene Ideen. “Wir haben bei den internationalen Fahrturnieren (CAI) immer eigene Themen für die Hindernisse, das wird auch bei der EM und WM so sein”, unterstreicht Christoph Sandmann. Das Design ist bislang noch ein gut gehütetes Geheimnis.

Die Europa- und Weltmeisterschaft in Lähden sind am Mittwochabend, Donnerstag und Freitag für Zuschauer/innen frei zugänglich. Am Samstag und Sonntag kosten Tickets 10 Euro pro Person, Kinder bis 14 Jahre haben freien Eintritt
European and World Championships in Emsland - PSG Lähden hosts the most important driving event of the year
(Lähden) It’s the most important driving event of the year and a Sport-Highlight in Germany: the FEI European Four-in-Hand Championships and the FEI Para-Driving World Championships in Lähden, Lower Saxony. From September 3rd to 7th, the municipality of Lähden will be the center of attraction for top drivers and driving fans from literally all over the world. This begins with the Nations‘ Evening on Wednesday, September 3rd, and continues with the ceremony for the new World Champions on Sunday, September 7th. In between, there will be fabulous competitions in the three disciplines of dressage, marathon, and obstacle driving. Teams from a total of 17 nations are expected, with 45 four-in-hand teams, 25 para-drivers, and their horses.
The organiser PSG Lähden is prepared for this: The CAI for singles, pairs, and four-in-hands in May 2025 already attracted an unprecedented record number of more than 180 teams and was implemented with complete organizational and sporting success. „The team is important,“ emphasizes World-class-driver Christoph Sandmann, multiple four-in-hand world champion and vice chairman of the PSG Lähden, „we can all rely on each other; everyone knows what to do.“ This experience and the conditions at the PSG sports grounds are among the best in all of Europe and ensured that the awarding of the two championships by the world governing body for horsesport, the FEI, was met with unanimous approval: three arenas, a huge warm-up area, eight permanent obstacles for the marathon, and stable tents and stands „as far as the eye can see.“ This includes a well-developed infrastructure for the specific needs of driving sports.
Spectacular: The Marathon Course for Four- and Single-Horse Driving
The marathon course, in particular, is a real crowd-puller, spectacular to watch, and always a special challenge. Internationally renowned course designers Jeroen Houtermann (NED) and Vilmos Jambor (HUN) devote considerable attention and their own ideas to the obstacles and the course layout. „We always have our own themes for the obstacles at the International Driving Shows (CAI), and this will also be the case at the European and World Championships,“ emphasizes Christoph Sandmann. The FEI European and FEI World Championships in Lähden are open to spectators on Wednesday evening, Thursday, and Friday. Tickets on Saturday and Sunday cost €10 per person, and children up to 14 years of age are free. Tickets are only available on site.
